Meet Terry Cleland
I am a proud Chico native and a fifth generation Northern Californian with a lifelong love of sports and recreation. As I near my retirement, I want to give back to my community and the position of CARD Director is a position for which I am both qualified and passionate.
Experience and Qualifications
I participated in CARD activities throughout my life – from CARD Day Camp in my earliest memories to soccer in my sixties. I was President of the Chico Softball Association when we, the players, started collecting fees to build 20th Street Park in the 1970’s. The building of 20th Street Park came full circle or me after I started a family and coached my sons’ little league and CYSL teams. It was humbling to watch them play in a park that I helped get off the ground. Furthermore, as the owner and partner of a local athletic store for 15 years, I worked closely with CARD and most aspects of our local sports community.
I am not only focused on sports and recreation but am passionate about any activity my family or I participate in. I have always actively donated to my sons’ classrooms and CUSD schools and was a 4-H leader and President of Butte County 4H while they participated in the program.
My experience at strategic, budgetary and financial planning, along with my deep appreciation of the value CARD brings to our community makes me the perfect candidate for this position and I look forward to serving you and the Chico area.
